I/O Panels
The I/O panels are located in the back of the display, facing downwards, and consist of one DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 0, four USB 3.1, and one 3.5mm audio jack.
With the HDMI ports, you’ll be able to plug in your PS4’s, Xbox One, and SNES to take your console gaming to the next level. You can also invest some of the top HDMI switches as well, and add multiple devices into the display itself.
And with four USB 3.1 ports, you’ll have plenty of room and be able to connect your mobile devices and use the display itself as a charging station for all of your electronic devices.
Camera Cradle
What’s cool about the MPG341CQR is that you can attach a camera on top of the display and be able to live stream.
And this is all thanks to its camera cradle which is located on top of the monitor. From there you can control the camera cradle through a controller which is located in the bottom right of the display.
Display Stand
The stand is sturdy and has an excellent broad V-shaped base and serves an excellent foundation for the monitor. With an ergonomic stand, you’ll be able to swivel, pivot, and make the height adjustments.

If you’re not fully satisfied with the stock stand, you can always opt-in for a 100mmx100mm VESA mount and be sufficiently flexible when positioning the monitor. However, it’s most likely you won’t need one since the stand itself is pretty flexible already.
RGB Lighting
Along with the lower portion of the monitor, you’ll be able to find cool RGB lighting and will work with Mystic Light as well, which adds to the ambiance to your environment. You can always turn off the RGB’s through the configurations of the display.

Performance and Features
Display and Refresh Rate
The MPG341CQR is a 34-inch, VA display with a 144Hz of refresh rate running a 4ms response time. And an input lag of 10ms. The widescreen 1800R curvature VA panel will also give you a more immersive experience and will provide you impressive performance.
Resolution
With a resolution of 3440×1440, you’ll have a lot of screen real estate and room to do plenty of projects and have multiple windows open at the same time.
And with these settings, you’ll be able to have a slight advantage when it boils down to competitive gaming to working on everyday projects, thanks to its fast refresh rate and response time.
100% sRGB and 78% DCI-P3 Coverage
The panels color output has a 100% sRGB coverage and a 78% DCI-P3, which is pretty good for this display and will give you color depth and accuracy.
And thanks to its contrast ratio and gamma ranges, you’ll be able to see the brilliant lights and the most vibrant darks, and this will make for even more immersive gameplay and media experience.
FreeSync Compatible
The MPG341CQR is a FreeSync display, so for AMD GPU users, you’ll be able to use the full features of the feature. Once FreeSync Is on, you’ll have smooth and buttery-like gameplay without any ghosting, and screen tearing.
However, if you have an Nvidia graphics card, you may be able to use the full features of FreeSync. However, it won’t be guaranteed. And you may need to download the drivers that Nvidia provides on their website.
Responsive Display
The VA panel has a pretty quick response time. But you may still see a bit of motion blurs when viewing high fast-paced action scenes or when viewing sports. However, you can always use the Anti-Blur feature, which will remove all motion blurs but in sacrifice with a few features.
Pros
- A high refresh rate of 144Hz and a 1ms response time
- Has a 100% sRGB and 78% DCI-P3 coverage
- Color depth and accuracy is excellent for this VA panel
Cons
- May experience a bit of motion blurs during fast-paced action scenes, but shouldn’t be too significant
Thoughts and Conclusion
The overall display has an impressive design, the curvature, and its widescreen display does truly give an immersive experience when gaming and viewing other multimedia.
With a decent price range, you’ll be able to have the best of both worlds of affordability, and performance. The design is aesthetic, and if you’re big on RGB lighting, the display has a line of RGB’s located in the bottom of the panel to add to the ambiance.
If you’re looking for some more 144Hz refresh rates monitors, then check these out. And you can also check out some of the even faster 240Hz refresh rate monitors as well.
You can also check out some more of the individual VA panels such as the ASUS XG27VQ or the Samsung C27FG73

6 thoughts on “MSI Optix MPG341CQR Review: Awesome Gaming Monitor, 144Hz Refresh Rate VA Panel”
Thank you so much for this review. I came here as I am starting to research Christmas presents for my 12 year old son. He is an avid gamer and has just declared that he wishes to become a gaming youtuber! so his current small Tv set up is not sufficient. I love the camera holding feature, as I am sure this would be utilised constantly while he is filming, and I am sure Jack will absolutely love the size of the screen and the curved screen, that will add to his gaming experience.
He currently plays quite a few games that are on the dark side so the night vision feature will be perfect for him.
I wasn’t planning on spending quite that much, although the price does seem great value for the features this offers. Are there any cheaper models that you would recommend, that would offer my son, the same benefits and fit his aspirations as a youtube gamer? Or do you feel that this one is worth the investment? Are there any other models you recommend I take a look at?
Thanks again, I am so pleased I found your website and review, I am sure it is going to help me find many amazing future presents for my son.
First time ever I’m seeing this product. It is a good monitor after looking at all the specification. I like that it has an extra light for better night or dark time experience. This is an ideal one for the gamers. Ingot friends who would like this for gaming and will definitely buy into in to it. Comparing this to other monitors, I can say this one reallybdies pretty well. Awesome!
Hi Jose,
Thanks for this post that we could have a better idea of this awesome gaming monitor. I like more and more gaming companies are making the greatest monitors with more than 120Hz or even 144Hz like this MSI Optix MPG341CQR.
lt must be great when you play games with such a high Hz monitor, and I believe the brightness and color contrast would be extremely excellent. I happen to notice that many smartphones now get a 90Hz or maybe 120Hz screen, do you have comments on that too? Or you also play games on your phone?
Love to hear from you soon, Matt
How good of a monitor would this one be for a ps4 pro and will my games maximize the full screen? Like modern warfare a first person shooter
Hi Chance, yes the MPG341CQR will work well for the PS4 and all current consoles, which you can also utilize HDR. However, it won’t fully support the screens 21:9 aspect ratio and will use the traditional 16:9 screen aspect ratio instead.
Hi I just want bought this monitor to play with my PlayStation pro but now I confuse about the setting of the video display because as for PlayStation it support 16:9 but this monitor is 21.9 so I wanna play with max screen monitor can it effect poor display while playing on.
