HP Omen Obelisk Gaming PC Review – 2020

5/5

The Omen Obelisk by HP is another great gaming desktop, pre-made and ready for your purchase. The Obelisk is an excellent desktop to have and should last you a few years of gaming,

With its great looking aesthetic features, which also include some cool looking LEDs, you’ll be able to game in style and with impressive features.

Along with its size you’ll have some compelling features, it’s a mini desktop that you can game all day and night long. If you’re also making upgrade plans in the future be sure it’s ATX mini compatible.

Also, the angular design and a black metal finish, you’ll get the top of the line quality materials. And the desktop is also very lightweight, that’s another significant advantage to have as well if you’re always moving.

If you’re likely a video editor or you convert high-quality images or video, then this desktop would e ideal because you’ll convert any files at a breakneck speed.

You can also burn DVD’ and also can do Bue Ray burning as well.

And with its powerful features, components, and design, you’ll be able to game for hours upon hours with amazing graphics and speed.

The Components

The Processor

The Omen Obelisk is a powerful desktop itself. Sitting inside is the Intel Core i7 8700 processor running with a clock speed of 3.20 GHz, with six cores within the processor.

You can potentially overclock the processor to 4.6GHz for faster gaming, which may require you to upgrade to a better cooling fan.

The processor only consumes around 65 watts of power, which is great for efficient energy. With power consumption, the Core i7 8700 sits right below the 8700K which runs at a clock speed of about 3.70 GHz; however, you’ll still do great with a regular 8700.

However, you can choose from other processors as well such as the Ryzen 5 2500x and the Intel Core i5 8400.

The Graphics Card

Within the Obelisk gaming desktop, you’ll see it has the newer type of Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card sitting in the slots.

The RTX 2080 is right beside the RTX 2080 Ti. However, you’ll do great with the RTX 2080, which is enough for your current gaming needs of today.

The RTX 2080 runs around 2,944 shaders, with 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, and a 256-bit interface, which runs to 14GHz and can deliver 448 GB per second.

This graphics card is based on the Pascal architecture, and with it, you’ll be able to get a lifelike graphics. It also is DisplayPort 1.4 ready as well.

One of the great RTX features you’ll be able to get is the realistic life-like lighting effects. And this is all thanks to its features such as the Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and the Real-Time Ray Tracing (RTRT).

The graphics card also supports HDMI 2.0b, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP), H.265 video en/decoding (PlayReady 3.0), and HDR which are all excellent features to have.

The RTX will outperform its counterpart, the GTX 1080 Ti. The RTX can also play the majority of the games on 4K, with the full triple-A feature on, and also supports ray tracing.

The RTX will consume most of your PSU’s energy to about 215 Watts of power.

Memory

The memory runs at lightning speed. With 16 GB of DDR4, you’ll be able to load your games, run your applications and programs with speed and with ease.

The memory runs in with a Hyper X 2666Mhz DDR4 RAM, and you’ll be able to get two slots for any future upgrades.

Drive Storage

The Obelisk will run an SSD M.2 NVMe, which is fast compared to your traditional HDD. With its advantages, you’ll be able to game fast and the loading times will dramatically decrease, thanks to its SSD.

With its 2TB drive, you’ll be able to use it for storage and space.

The Case

The case lights up, thanks to its cool looking LEDs. You’ll be able to reprogram your LEDs as well through the Obelisk’s software.

You can choose the color you want your Obelisks desktop to light in, which is pretty awesome.

You’ll also be able to see the internal components of your desktop. Thanks to its clear side window, you’ll be able to look at your PC hardware, and the lightings come to effect. And it also has EMI shielding to it.

However, the clear door side panel doesn’t come with the Obelisks and will cost you an additional 25 USD to have.

It’s stylish and beautiful at the same time to look at.

Air Flow

The Obelisks desktop is unusually small in size; however, the airflow will go throughout to the top casing.

There are vents in the bottom. However, there are no feet to support the desktop which is a bit weird because it won’t suck in the air thoroughly.

Overall Design

You’ll have a quiet time gaming and working on the Obelisk desktop. However, there are no available PCI Express slots for you to add any additional components in.

However, you’ll be able to get 2 SATA-3 drives, with 1 80 mm cooling fan and with a PSU running around 300 to 500 watts of power.

The airflow for the case is not as efficient, due to its design and small compact space. The vents are on the top and airflow should go to that direction.

The Obelisk does run on Windows 10 and has different applications already preloaded into it. However, you can always remove these applications if you wish.

With no additional PCI Express slot, you’ll have the ability to add another memory stick into it if you’re thinking about putting in another 16 GB, to make it 32 GB worth of memory total.

So you’ll get a total of two memory slots.

Pricing

You’ll be able to choose different versions of the Obelisks.

You can get a very cheap one for only 900 USD, being the lowest, however still runs excellent for gaming. You’ll get the Core i5 and the GTX 1050 graphics card.

And you’ll be able to choose the high-end desktops with the Core i7 and the newest Nvidia RTX graphics card.

If you’re going to be 1080p gaming, a ten series graphics card will still be excellent.

In Conclusion

You’ll have full total gaming experience, and you’ll be able to push the Obelisk to its limits. However, with limited PCI slots for any additional components, you’ll still have a perfect PC gaming system.

With its beautiful visuals, high performing components, with the newest RTX card installed within it, you’ll have a great time gaming and enjoying other multimedia as well.

It’s great that you can overclock the processor to 4.6GHz for faster gaming because it’s really all about faster gaming, right?  LOL.  At least that’s why my sons tell me!  (I’m shopping for them!).
