Display Design

The ASUS TUF VG27AQ gaming monitor measures 27-inches and will provide you more than enough screen real-estate for you to have multiple programs open simultaneously.

Along with its excellent aesthetically pleasing design, the VG27AQ has a matte-black texture to the overall design.

You can see the TUF Gaming logo on the back of the stock stand, along with its excellent architectural design on the rear of the display.

Additionally, the display has a nice thin-bezel design, making the monitor fully immersive. Along with the thin border design, you can attach another VG27AQ display as well, making the monitor great for dual-displays.

The display also has excellent matte material to the screen itself, preventing glaring when placed in bright light sources. However, there were a few glaring when placed directly onto sunlight.

You’ll find the OSD panel on the back of the panel, consisting of four physical buttons and a joystick. In addition, navigating through the OSD menu is user-friendly and easy and offers you varieties of gaming and multimedia pre-sets that you can choose from.

Located on the back of the display, you can find the connectivity, which you may need to tilt the monitor to plug in the connections.

The connections consist of two HDMI, one DisplayPort 1.2, and one audio jack. With an abundance of connectivity, you can plug in multiple devices that you may have, which is very convenient.

You can fully adjust the stand along with an ergonomic stand, which can adjust in height, tilt, swivel, and pivot, which is very useful if you want to view the screen in different positions.

The VG27AQ sits on a stable foundation; thanks to its square-shaped base, the display won’t wobble nor move.

In general, the design is superb and has an excellent quality feel for the entire build.

Performance and Features

The ASUS TUF VG27AQ has a 2560 x 1440 QHD, along with a great native refresh rate of 144Hz; however, it can be overclocked easily to 165Hz with a 3ms response time, which is all great for serious and casual gamers alike.

Additionally, the pixel density is excellent; with 109 PPI, you’ll be able to see crisp and clear images and text. Along with a high resolution, you’ll have more than enough real-estate screen space for you to work on multiple projects and windows simultaneously.

Along with its contrasts, the contrast ratio is at 1000:1 and a brightness level of 400 cd/m². Being an IPS panel, the VG27AQ has some high-quality contrasts compared to other IPS monitors.

The VG27AQ is excellent for console gamers thanks to its low input lag with a 3ms input lag; it’s relatively low, ideal for a gaming monitor.

In addition, the blacks look a bit gray in really dark environments but shouldn’t be a significant issue at all.

Also, the VG27AQ has 99% sRGB coverage, along with a great SDR gamut coverage as well. The display is okay for professional creatives and photo editors alike; however, other IPS displays are recommended for creative uses.

The VG27AQ has FreeSync and is also G-Sync certified with a VRR of 48Hz to 165Hz. Once FreeSync is on, you’ll be able to experience smooth and buttery-like gaming, without screen tearing nor ghosting, with an input lag of 3ms.

You can also turn on overdrive; however, a few graphical artifacts and overshoots may be present when turned to max settings.

The HDR 10 for the VG27AQ is quite okay because it doesn’t cover the whole color spectrum and gamut.

However, you can always calibrate the monitors’ color accuracy with ease, and the monitor surprisingly does produce accurate colors after a few calibrations.

Pros

  • Fast 165Hz refresh rate, can be overclocked.
  • FreeSync and G-Sync certified.

Cons

  • The darks aren’t as rich and may have grayish colors to them

Thoughts and Conclusion

The ASUS TUF VG27AQ gaming monitor is pretty aesthetically pleasing and does come packaged with the required performance and speed to get your competitive gaming on.

In addition, the monitor does have FreeSync and is also G-Sync certified as well, with an excellent VRR range. Gameplays were smooth and buttery-like, which is great if you’re playing fast-paced action games.

However, the VG27AQ is a bit limited in color gamut, and accuracy is quite decent. But if you’re a creative professional and a professional photo editor, then you may have to check out other IPS displays which grant you better color spectrums and accuracy.
