You’ll see the ASUS ROG logo on the rear of the display, which also lights up, thanks to its aesthetically pleasing LED’s, which you can fully control and customize via the OSD menu.

And with a very thin bezel design, you’ll be fully immersed in your gaming moments. The display also has an excellent matte-black material, which doesn’t produce any glares nor reflections at all.

Located in the back of the ROG PG259QN monitor, you’ll find the connectivity, which consists of one DisplayPort 1.4, one HDMI 2.0, two USB 3.0, and one audio jack. Having two USB ports is an excellent assist itself; you’ll be able to plug in more additional devices as well.

The OSD panel uses a joystick and a few other physical buttons, which are all functional. Additionally, navigating through the OSD menu is convenient, thanks to its joystick.

Unfortunately, there are no built-in speakers; however, it shouldn’t be an issue because you’ll be better with your dedicated speakers and a set of excellent headphones such as the Bose 700 headphones.

Overall, the ASUS ROG PG259QN is a well-designed gaming monitor, thanks to its quality plastic material and a solid metal base stand that’s fully ergonomic. The PG259QN has a futuristic look and a well-rounded design.

Performance and Features

The ASUS PG259QN is an IPS panel with a resolution of 1920×1080, a fast refresh rate of 360Hz, and a quick 1ms response time. These specs are all outstanding when it boils down to competitive and fast-paced gaming.

If you’re coming from a 144Hz gaming display to a 360Hz monitor, you’ll feel a big difference in terms of performance and the fluidity of graphic motion.

Also, the display hits exactly 360Hz refresh rate if the Display Port 1.4’s are used.

And the monitor doesn’t produce any ghosting nor motion blur, thanks to its quick pixel response time of 1ms.

The input lag sits very low with a quick response time, around 1.5ms, which is great for serious and casual gamers alike.

Additionally, the PG259QN has a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and has a brightness level of 400 cd/m². However, dark scenes may become a bit grayish, compared to the VA versions, which produces rich darks.

Along with a 97% sRGB coverage, you’ll have color accuracy all over the spectrum, which is great for creatives as well. In general, the RGB colors are excellent if you also work on color grading projects and photo editing.

There was a bit of backlight bleeding on the screen’s corners, but not to a significant level, which shouldn’t be an issue. And the excess glow is also caused by the IPS glow as well.

You’ll also be able to experience crisp and refined details, including text, thanks to its high 90 PPI density, which also expands the screen for more windows and more space to work with, which is also beneficial if you’re a professional creative as well.

The PG259QN is equipped with overdrive as well, which works perfectly fine until you set the mode to extreme settings, which you’ll start seeing graphical artifacts and overshoots.

Along with the overdrive feature, the PG259QN does have HDR as well, but it doesn’t perform exceptionally well but does grant you a limited color volume spectrum.

The PG259QN also performs great when FreeSync is enabled. The monitor is also G-Sync certified as well, which will work great if you have an Nvidia card. And you can also use Nvidia’s ULMB, which eliminates motion blur across all fields. Also, G-Sync can be enabled when the DisplayPort’s and HDMI ports are utilized.

Additionally, when FreeSync is enabled, gameplays were buttery smooth and didn’t have any ghosting nor motion trail effects, which is superb in our book of awesomeness.

In general, the ASUS PG259QN is an overall great gaming monitor; being an IPS, you’ll still get great images along with speed. If you use the PG259QN straight out of the box, you’ll receive superb images and colors without any calibrations. However, you’ll get a slight bit of improvement in quality after you calibrate the display.

Pros

  • Fast 360Hz refresh rate
  • Great input lag and pixel response time
  • FreeSync and G-Sync certified performed smoothly in gaming sessions.

Cons

  • A bit of backlight bleeding
  • Dark environments weren’t as rich as darks.

Thoughts and Conclusion

Overall, the ASUS ROG PG259QN is an all-around gaming monitor. However, you may not fully utilize the full 360Hz refresh rate, but you’ll still achieve close to 360Hz.

However, the price range is quite high; it’s also great to check out more of the top budgeted gaming monitors as well if you’re keeping tabs on your wallet, such as the 144Hz or the 240Hz gaming monitors.

But overall, the PG259QN does deliver you the performance and speed, which you’ll get both quality and speed for an excellent IPS panel.
