Display Design

The Acer Nitro VG240Y display has a nice matte-black finish to the overall frame and making the entire design look elegant.

Additionally, the screen measures at 24-inches, which is more than enough screen real estate to get multiple projects and multimedia simultaneously opened.

Also, the display is bezel-free, which is excellent for increased viewing and immersion experience overall. The bottom of the display has the control panels but won’t distract you from your gaming and multimedia experiences.

The stand has an excellent, metallic, V-shaped base to it and will give the Acer Nitro VG240Y a well balanced and stable foundation.

However, the stand isn’t entirely ergonomically designed because the display can only tilt. But you can always opt-in for a 100x100mm VESA mount, which you can use if you’re not fully satisfied with the default stand that it comes with.

You’ll be able to find the OSD panel in the bottom right of the display, which consists of pressable buttons and a joystick for navigational purposes. And having the joystick is super convenient when navigating through the OSD settings as well.

The OSD settings are easy to navigate and adjust, thanks to its user-friendly interface, you’ll be able to change the displays settings with ease. Also, the OSD has eight pre-game settings that you can choose from, which automatically optimizes your specific game.

The connectivity is located in the back of the display and consists of two HDMI 1.4, one DisplayPort 1.2, and one 3.5mm audio jack. Making the required connections is easy and super simple. However, the display doesn’t have any USB ports that you can connect to.

Unfortunately, there are no built-in speakers; however, you’re almost better off with a set of dedicated speakers or a pair of excellent headphones as the Bose 700 headphones or Sony WH 1000XM3 headphones. And having no built-in speakers subtracts the weight and gives you an affordable price.

Performance and Features

The Acer Nitro VG240Y is a 24-inch IPS display, with a resolution of 1920×1080 FHD, with a refresh rate of 144Hz and a 4ms response time.

Additionally, the viewing angles are great, and the images and colors remained consistent when viewing the screen from certain angles.

With a 144Hz refresh rate and a 4ms response time, there were no signs lag nor graphical trailing, but just a bit of motion blur on certain fast-paced action scenes. But the specifications are still excellent if you’re a casual gamer. And these are incredibly great for an affordable state of the art display.

The display has a contrast level of 1000:1 and a brightness level of 250 cd/m², which is excellent because the display provides you a wide range of gamut and overall contrast. And there was minimal backlight bleeding, and shouldn’t be significantly noticeable.

Additionally, the display is FreeSync ready and is also G-Sync certified as well. The G-Sync feature also works well when using the DisplayPort. Also, the games ran smooth and buttery-like when FreeSync feature was enabled, and with a 5ms input lag, no lag and no screen was tearing present at all.

You can also turn on the Overdrive feature as well and try to utilize the refresh rate fully. However, there may be graphical artifacts present when enabling Overdrive.

Overall, the performance for the Acer Nitro VG240Y is crisp and clear. Images and colors are superb and remained consistent through the displays sessions. Viewing angles remained consistent throughout use as well.

Pros

  • Impressive IPS panel, also remained consistent in images and colors when viewing the display from certain angles
  • Fast 144Hz refresh rate and a decent 4ms response time
  • The 1920 x 1080 resolution looks well, with crisp images and texts. You’ll have more than enough screen real estate to maneuver around
  • Very affordable

Cons

  • A bit of IPS bleeding, not too significant. But normal for IPS’s to glow
  • The stand can only tilt; however, you can always replace the default stand with a VESA mount

Conclusion

The Acer Nitro VG240Y is an impressive, affordable display that packs the necessary performance and features. You’ll get the best of both worlds of an affordable price tag and quality performance in one excellent monitor.

You can also check out some of the best gaming monitors for 2020. You can also check out some of the other awesome IPS displays such as Asus VG259Q display or the ASUS PG279QZ widescreen display.
